Features · Craving wheel
Can’t decide? Let your own meals pick.
Random food pickers suggest things you may not even like. The craving wheel only knows what you’ve eaten and saved, so every answer is something you already enjoyed once.
Free on iPhone and Android. No account, and it works with no signal.
In short
PlateDiary’s craving wheel is a free food picker built from your own saves: it deals up to ten dishes and drinks you’ve had, hides them under covered plates and spins, so the answer is always something you already liked. Custom named wheels are part of Premium.

Why it works
Why a wheel works when you can’t decide.
“What do you want to eat?” is hard because every option is equally fine. A spin breaks the tie, and it does something sneakier too: the moment the wheel lands, you feel either relief or a small “oh no”. That feeling is your real answer. Plenty of people spin, groan, and order the thing they actually wanted. It still counts as the wheel working.
How to spin
How the craving wheel works.
- Open the wheelOn the Table tab, tap the Craving wheel row: “Can’t decide? Give it a spin.”
- Pick a moodChoose All, Food, Drinks or 4★+ for safe bets only.
- SpinThe covered plates gather, shuffle and fly out, then the wheel spins and slows to a stop.
- Lift the lidThe winning save is revealed. Not feeling it? Spin again, or re-deal a fresh set.
The deal
What goes on the wheel.
Only food and drink saves — never a selfie, a table item or anything marked “other” — so the answer is always something you can eat. Named dishes go on first, one of each name, and unnamed saves fill any space left. The row appears once you have two food or drink saves.
Premium
Your own wheels (Premium).
With Premium, build named wheels from saves you pick: “Noodles”, “Payday dinners”, “Rainy day”, “Just drinks”. Each needs at least five saves — fewer and you already know the answer — and you can keep up to twelve, switched with chips above the wheel.
Want the same idea on your Home Screen? The Craving Shuffle widget, also Premium, deals a dish from your saves without opening the app.
No app needed
No saves yet? Spin the web wheel.
If you’re hungry right now and haven’t saved anything, our free what should I eat wheel runs in your browser with ready-made wheels and room for your own list.
Any wheel
How to build a good food wheel.
Whether you use our app, our web wheel or a paper one on the fridge, a few rules make the spin feel fair:
- Six to ten options. Fewer and you already know the answer; more and nothing feels special.
- Mix effort levels. A sit-down place, a counter, something to carry home.
- Add one wildcard you’ve never tried, to keep the wheel honest.
- Remove anything you veto twice. The wheel should only hold things you’d be happy with.
- Make wheels by mood — comfort food, celebrations, quick lunches — instead of one giant wheel.
Groups
Tips for groups who can’t agree.
- Veto round first. Everyone gets one “absolutely not” before the spin.
- Two each. Each person adds two options; the wheel decides.
- Spin twice: once for a cuisine, once for the place.
- The loser picks dessert. Everyone wins something.
- Use 4★+ for a picky table. Only proven hits make it on.
- Honour the groan. If the whole table sighs, spin again — nobody has to pretend.
