Features · Collections

Albums for every kind of craving.

Moments sort your saves by night. Collections let you sort them any other way you like: by person, by trip, by obsession.

Free on iPhone and Android. No account, and it works with no signal.

In short

PlateDiary organizes food photos three ways: a free Favorites heart, collections you build yourself (Premium), and smart collections you make by typing a sentence such as “ramen with Mia in September”, read on your phone first. Free tags sit alongside as a wall of fridge magnets.

Steal these

Twelve food album ideas worth stealing.

Good food albums are about a feeling, not a category. A dozen that work in any photo app:

  • Dishes I’d fly back for.
  • First dates and anniversaries.
  • The noodle census — every bowl, every city.
  • Hotel breakfasts.
  • Birthday dinners, year by year.
  • What Mum always orders.
  • Street food on trips.
  • Desserts we split.
  • Coffee worth crossing town for.
  • Places to take visitors.
  • Rainy-day soups.
  • One dish, ranked — every croissant, every taco al pastor.

Free

Favorites, one tap.

Tap the heart on any save and it joins Favorites. It’s free for everyone, always.

Premium

Collections of your own.

With Premium, make as many collections as you like — a trip to Lisbon, every table with your book club, the hunt for the city’s best pastel de nata. A collection opens in Play, so your saves tumble onto the page and you can tilt your phone to move them, and it holds up to 200 saves a page. Give it a backdrop of a colour, a photo or a pattern, or browse it grouped by the table each save came from.

The Collections tab also brings back a memory now and then: “A year ago this week”.

Smart collections

Smart collections: type a sentence.

Type what you want — “ramen with Mia in September”, “5 stars”, “coffee in Melbourne” — and a smart collection fills itself. Your phone reads the sentence first: companions, places, tags, dates, kinds, stars and dish words. Smart collections come with Premium.

If a few words are left that the phone can’t place, you can tap to let PlateDiary AI read just those, after a one-time consent; the sentence and your dish names go up, never photos, places, people or notes. Turn on Add new saves that fit and future saves join on their own. Remove a save by hand and it never comes back by itself.

Free

Tags that act like fridge magnets.

Tags are free. They gather on a wall of fridge magnets, sized by how many saves wear each one — hold a magnet and fidget with it. A tag page opens in Play or as a list, under a hanging label that swings when you move your phone. Suggested tags appear as chips and are never added unless you tap them.

Naming

Album names that still make sense in five years.

  • Name the feeling, not the date. “Long lunches” outlives “Summer 2026 food”.
  • Use people’s names. “Every table with Ines” is instantly clear.
  • Keep one album per question you ask. “Where should we take your parents?” deserves its own list.
  • Let tags do the small labels (spicy, brunch, late night) and albums do the stories.
  • Retire albums. A finished trip is a finished album — stop adding to it and it becomes a keepsake.

Questions

Questions people ask.

How do smart collections work?

You type a sentence and your phone reads it for people, places, tags, dates, kinds, stars and dish words. Words it can’t place can go to PlateDiary AI on a tap, after consent.

Does a smart collection add new saves by itself?

Only if you turn on “Add new saves that fit”. A save you removed never comes back on its own.

Are collections free?

Favorites and tags are free. Making your own collections, including smart collections, is part of Premium.

How many saves fit on a collection page?

Up to 200 saves a page, in Play or when browsing.
