For food creators: the archive behind the account.

Your camera roll holds four thousand photos of food and no idea which bakery the croissant came from. For people who post about food, the slow part isn’t the shoot. It’s finding the shot, remembering the place and writing the caption. PlateDiary does the remembering.

Free on iPhone and Android. No account, and it works with no signal.

In short

For food bloggers and creators, PlateDiary is a private archive of every dish you shoot: each one cut out from its background, filed under the place and the night, with your notes and the price, ready for a carousel, a cutout collage or a story.

Checked

Cut-outs

Every dish, already off its background.

Snap the table and each dish and drink is cut out on the phone in about a second. That is a carousel slide, a collage piece and a story layer before you have picked up your fork. For tasting menus, Dish by dish keeps the camera up and stacks every course.

Turn on Keep original in the camera and the untouched full-frame shot is saved to your photo library as well, so you still have the wide table photo for the grid. It is off by default.

Exports

What you can export, free and Premium.

A transparent background turns cream in video. Mosaic and the throw-it-all-on layout need ten or more saves.

Captions

Notes that write your captions.

Every save has an optional name, note and price. Fill them in on the ride home and the caption is half written. A formula that works for most food posts:

  • The dish, named the way the menu names it.
  • The place and the neighbourhood.
  • One sensory detail — “the crust shatters”, “smoky, not sweet”.
  • The price as you paid it, if your audience cares.
  • A verdict — “would queue again” or “order the other thing”.

Coverage

What you’ve covered, on a map.

Every place you have shot pins itself on the map, with a visit count. Places sorts by most visited, latest or nearby, so it’s easy to see which neighbourhoods you have done to death and which you haven’t touched. Tags are free: add posted or to post to saves and the tag wall becomes a content queue.

Honestly

What PlateDiary doesn’t do.

  • No posting or scheduling. You export and post yourself.
  • No follower stats, no public profile, no feed.
  • No account and no cloud sync: the archive stays on your phone, with backups to your own iCloud Drive or a Google Drive file you pick.
  • Not a photo editor. It cuts out and lays out; colour grading stays in your editing app.

Questions

Questions people ask.

Can I export cut-outs with a transparent background?

Yes. The free share sheet has a Transparent background and exports a PNG. The PlateDiary wordmark is always on in the free sheet.

Can I make videos for Reels and TikTok?

With Premium, Share Studio exports a looping 6-second MP4 in Story format. A transparent background becomes cream in video.

Does PlateDiary post for me?

No. There is no posting, scheduling or follower stats. You export a picture or a video and post it wherever you like.

Do I lose the original photo?

Not if you turn on Keep original in the camera, which saves the untouched shot to your photo library. It is off by default.

Is my archive public?

No. There is no account and no profile. Your diary stays on your phone until you choose to export something.
