In short
PlateDiary is a food journal app for eating out. Snap one photo of the table and on-device machine learning cuts every dish and drink into its own save, in about a second. Saves gather into moments by place and time, and fill a board, a map, your Places and your Companions — kept on your phone, with no account.

what it does
One photo does most of the work.
PlateDiary is built around three seconds at the table: snap, keep, done. Everything after that is optional.
- The snap. An in-app camera; every dish and drink is cut out on the phone as a die-cut save, in about a second. Photos you already took work too.
- Moments. Saves from the same place within about ninety minutes group themselves into one moment, with who was there and a note if you like.
- The board. Five views — Moment, Month, List, Places and Companions — plus search, a map, and a craving wheel for when nobody can decide.
- Places and Companions. Every restaurant with your usual and your menu there; every person with your tables together.
- Prices and receipt scan. Optional prices, read from the receipt on your phone, in your own currency.
- Play and share. Toss your saves around on a tablecloth, share a moment as a picture, or make a picture or looping video in Share Studio with Premium.
- PlateDiary AI. Names the dishes, answers questions about your diary, and can write the words for Served, your month and year stories — after asking first.
More on each: features, PlateDiary AI, using it as a restaurant journal.
your data
Private by default, and honest about the exceptions.
- Photos, saves, notes, tags, companions and places stay on the device. There is nothing to sync and no account to sign in to.
- PlateDiary AI asks once before its first use, then sends only what each feature needs — small pictures of the cut-out dishes, with the place's name as a hint, for a read. Never the table photo, faces, or your location, and nothing is kept on the server.
- Backups are files you control, with a copy in your own iCloud Drive or a Google Drive file you pick.
- Limited usage and crash diagnostics help improve the app; purchases, PlateDiary AI and optional GIF search use their named providers.
The details, provider by provider, are in the privacy policy.
